The Makings of a Top Cricket Bat.

One of the questions we frequently get asked about our cricket bats is how many grains does it have and how big are the edges and the spine at the back of the bat. Whilst these factors can give you a bat that is visibly appealing it doesn't necessarily make it play any better.

The grain structure of a cricket bat can have a bearing on performance and the lifespan of a bat as generally the narrower the grain the softer the blade can tend to be and has more spring, but the pressing of a bat and the shaping are more important factors affecting performance and longevity. The eye and expertise of a master bat maker is imperative when it comes to working with a natural material and generally it is a balancing act to press a bat sufficiently to retain optimum performance whilst not compromising the durability of the cleft of willow. We at Talent Cricket hand select as many bats as possible and opt for bats that will play well above the general aesthetics of the blade.

The edge size and spine depth have absolutely no bearing on the performance, and in actual fact a traditional convex shape which tend to be found on the smaller profile bats will give greater performance than the modern concave shaped bats with flat faces and thick edges. We test all of our stock for quality of preformance with a Lignum Vitae mallet and have found through experience that this is definitely the case.

After all is said and done the most important factor with a cricket bat is that it feels right in the hand, as you could have a brilliant bat but if it doesn't feel good in the pick up you will never get on with it. This is where the customer has the luxury of choosing from a stock of 100's of bats at Talent Cricket to find the very best bat for the individual. We always have experienced staff on hand to deal with any queries and it is our mission to make sure that the customer walks away with a bat that suits the individual.
