An all rounder can really make a team and make the difference in big matches, with valiant batting endeavours or heroic bowling spells. However, without quality cricket equipment even a skilled player would struggle.

The job of an all rounder is to support the specialist bowlers and batsmen and he should be competent at both disciplines. A good all rounder will be able to score runs consistently and take regular wickets, and he should be a capable fielder as well. All rounders really can be heroes and some of the most famous cricketers of all time have come from their ranks. Ian Botham is a great example of a man who could take vital wickets and then smash a huge score with the bat; Flintoff and Pietersen are good contemporary examples. However good these players were or are though, they would really be in trouble without quality cricket equipment. All rounders require cricket equipment for when they're batting at the crease or bowling destructive deliveries.

Cricket Equipment for an All Rounder at the Crease

When an all rounder is batting it is essential that he has all of the correct cricket equipment, firstly for his own safety and secondly so he can endeavour to destroy the opposition's bowling attack. Vital equipment for batting includes:

  • Bat - a well balanced piece of willow with a great sweet spot really makes batting easier.
  • Pads - a batsman would be foolish to step out to the crease without a solid pair of pads to protect him from the ball.
  • Helmet - again this is an essential piece of cricket equipment for protection if the opposing bowler has any pace.
  • Box - this is definitely a vital piece of equipment which if forgotten could result in lots and lots of pain.
  • Gloves - a cricket ball is very hard and finger and hand bones are relatively fragile, so all batsman must wear gloves.

If an opposing bowler is ferociously fast batsmen often like to wear extra cricket equipment such as an arm guard, and inner thigh pad or a chest pad, for extra protection.

Cricket Equipment for an All Rounder in his Delivery Stride

Bowling boots really are the main piece of cricket equipment needed by a bowler. Bowling boots are like normal cricket spikes but have a high upper part. This is to give added support to a bowler's ankle when he goes through his delivery stride as this is a very strenuous movement.

A good all rounder can change a game and be a real hero, but he really couldn't do it without the correct cricket equipment.
